African Hope Update

03/08/2007
By Charlie Budd

Electricity is on one day and off another day... if you are fortunate enough to have access to electricity. The current schedule for electric supply is OFF 12 hours, on the next day then OFF another 12 hours. It is now the season where the rain will begin to come and so it is a bit cooler but the humidity has returned. We need the rain!!

The low water level in the Okosombo Dam, the majority source of Ghana's electricity production, has plunged the West African Nation into darkness. The dam, built in 1965 on the Volta River, generates about 912 megawatts of power at Akosombo and about 160 megawatts at Kpong, a smaller dam built 25 kilometers downstream.

Authorities say that hydroelectric generation is threatened by low water following poor flow from the Volta River, whose three main tributaries - the White Volta, Black Volta and Red Volta - are in Burkina Faso, where the rains have not been coming. This lack of rain has created a serious shortage of electricity for this developing nation. We need the rain!!

All of the surrounding African Nations are also in need of the precious rain.

Drinking water sources have been drying up... the swamps, ponds, small lakes and the minor rivers are all dry. We need the rain!! People are suffering and it is from a prolonged lack of rainfall.

African Hope has reported the fresh water well that was put into production this month in Gomoa Fetteh, Central Region. We praise God that a village and an orphanage have access to this clean fresh water. We would also like to report that a fresh water well will be in production next week in Larabanga, Northern Region. The pump is being purchased this week and is scheduled to be installed ASAP. This will bring water to a village that is 100% Moslem and is suffering terribly. The Imam of the Ancient Mosque and Chief Jakpa are appreciative of the generosity of all of you who have donated to these projects and brought a clean cup of water to a thirsty village. African Hope has been in ministry to these villages and will have ongoing projects in Larabanga and Gomoa Fetteh.

While the Budd Family is on furlough through 2007 we would like to come and give report of what God has been doing through African Hope. Please contact us for available dates as we are traveling throughout the East Coast. Multiple short-term teams are also forming for 2008. Check out the calendar for more information.
